It's quite compelling to follow Harry and his friends into the darkness and see how they handle it when things get bleak. Rowling's story is such a good one, and even though I've read the book, there's a winning sense of dread and desperation to The Deathly Hallows Part 1. Steve Kloves is once again on hand as screenwriter, and he must have relished the opportunity to take time with character development across two final movies. He's the man who took the kiddie-friendly Potter franchise in a much darker direction. It was thought there was too much happening in the final story to cram it into one picture, and I'm sure the good folk at Warner Bros wanted to milk the sacred cow for all it was worth.ĭirector David Yates, who directed the last two films is once again on hand. The decision has been made to split the seventh and final book of the series into two films, with the second instalment due mid-next year. The trio go into hiding, trying to avoid Voldemort, and also searching for magical horcruxes, the destruction of which will bring an end to the evil. Their number one target is Harry Potter (played by Daniel Radcliffe) who's aided by his friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), as well as the Order of the Phoenix and Ron's family. The supporters of the evil one have taken over the Ministry of Magic, and death eaters are attacking the good witches and wizards without warning. He's been killed by the forces loyal to the evil Voldemort, whose dark spell has now fallen over the community. The wizarding world is in mourning with the murder of Albus Dumbledore, the principal of Hogwarts.

Those seeking a thrill ride and a magical tale could well be bored and frustrated, while loyal followers who know the books by heart, and have developed a serious attachment to these characters might just well consider this the best of all eventual eight films. It's also likely to divide fans of the tale of the boy wizard. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is the seventh film in the record-breaking fantasy series based on the books by JK Rowling.
